Hairstylist Ted Gibson Says Working with Angelina Jolie Changed His Life

Ted Gibson.Vanity Fair beauty director SunHee Grinnell gets to know one of her favorite celebrity hairstylists, Ted Gibson, a little bit better.
SunHee Grinnell: You were born in Texas and were raised in a military family. How did your interest in hairstyling come about? And are you still connected to your Lone Star roots?
Ted Gibson: Being from Texas makes me a very proud person. Us Texans are proud in our beliefs and truly believe that everything is big in Texas. We have big hair, big personalities, big hats, big boots, and big food—the best Tex-Mex in the country.
My family traveled a lot when I was a young child, which helped me to adapt to many different people and understand that there are many different beauties in this world. I had an appreciation for different cultures and how women of different ethnicities had things about them that are so beautiful. Whether it’s her cheekbones or her eyes, I always wanted to bring out a woman’s best features.
“Big sexy hair” is what I feel put me on the map. Working with Angelina Jolie changed my life professionally and spiritually. I started working with her when she started to be known as Angie, and when her hair became a statement. We did that together and worked together for over five years. What we created together I call one of the best times of my life and my career.
